Accessory selection certainly comes into play in the carrier a gentleman selects for attending a charity auction, the opening of a new art exhibit, the hottest outdoor concert or simply running errands. When a cross-body or messenger is too cumbersome for those particular occasions, alternatively the right compact man bag will satisfy his utility and style requirements.
Over the decades, man-bags have fallen into the travel bag categories of messengers bags to fanny-packs. Fashion designers have even incorporated briefcases, men’s totes and backpacks in this category. However, for purposes of this blog, a man-bag is infused with elements of a cross body and a messenger only smaller; built to carry items that would normally be secured in a jacket or pants pockets or carried awkwardly in a man’s hands.
If you follow Beau Satchelle’s journey, as a result of the recent auction where we donated a bespoke Italian Inspired Racing Duffel, we were asked to build a man-bag for a client who desired similar elements to pay homage to his vintage Jaguar.
The André Bespoke Men’s Cosmopolitan was designed and built with a green exterior in Italian Buttero Leather and a front slip pocket. The interior has Italian Buttero Leather in Whiskey Brown with a smartphone pocket, business card holder and power bank holder (including a cylinder power bank). The interior also includes a zippered pocket featuring a vintage Jaguar patch and British flag patch; complete with a shoulder strap, top handle and antique brass hardware.
As with all Beau Satchelle bespoke products, the André Men’s Bag was hand-stitched using the traditional saddle-stitch and finished with hand-painted and hand-burnished edges.
The bag was designed for functionality and displaying the upmost style of a well-traveled and cultured individual. The bag being vertical allows for quick accessibility to a smartphone without unzipping the entire bag. The power bank is able to charge a phone within the bag or out. The interior zipped pocket can hold a small set of keys, a small card wallet for credit cards or essential cords or ear-buds. To retrieve concert tickets or receipts from the exterior pocket, simply squeeze the buttons on the antique brass clasp.
Over time, the owner will break in this gorgeous, yet durable carrier through wear and his natural oils. Being premium leather, we advise responsible care and to treat it like a beautiful vintage car; meaning maintaining with regular dusting using a soft cloth and occasional deeper cleaning with a leather conditioner to preserve softness and keep it moisturized. Certainly, the best maintenance is to allow your local leather professional to clean and condition. When not in use, it is best to store in its custom dust-bag.
